Before You Fly
Mt Blackheath, due to its unpredictability and exposed mountain location, can be a challenging PG5/Advanced site to fly from.
At other times it can quickly and unexpectedly become dangerous to be in the air. Weather and flying conditions can change rapidly and without warning. Visiting pilots are advised to obtain a site briefing each time before flying, until enough experience has been gained to fully understand site conditions.

Blackheath West Site Guide
This is both a spectacular and intimidating site which can be difficult to understand without a lot of local experience. The site has much to offer, from smooth evening ridge soaring to very powerful thermals that could be used to push you on your way to long distance cross country flying.

The Blue Mountains Soaring Club (BMSC) thanks you for your membership contribution. We also welcome your ideas and the giving of your time to club meetings and projects. Your club supports your access to sites but needs your support in return.

Getting Back to Launch
The walking track back to launch is not clearly defined and even having done the walk back from the Landing Zone once or twice with others, it can be easy to get lost due to the numerous tracks that criss-cross the escarpment.
